The guest bedroom was designed to feel like a vacation destination!
Our guest bedroom isn’t a big room yet it serves an important role in the home dynamic. It’s purpose, is to make every guest who stays with us feel pampered and relaxed. This is the first room I decorated in the house and it was so much fun. It’s NOT consistent with the rest of the home’s decor. It’s an escape! I hope you enjoy taking a look!
When possible, I’ve included links to the pieces I’ve used in the rooms. If I couldn’t find the exact piece, I’ve included one that I believe will give the same look! I hope that’s fun for you!

Starting with the bones
Since this isn’t a large room, I made a dramatic choice that immediately distanced it from the rest of our home. I had crown molding, all the trim, and the doors all painted a glossy BLACK! That one move made this room standout.
The gold sconces and minimalist fan also create a distinct vibe right from the start of designing this guest bedroom.

Guest Bedroom simple furnishings
Given this room isn’t large, there isn’t a lot of room for furniture. A queen bed was a must. The only additions are a tall lingerie chest and two round side tables.

Making the guest bedroom a destination
The design of the guest bedroom is inspired – very loosely – by the British Colonial Style. You can learn more about the features of this style by taking a look at British Colonial Style – 7 steps to achieve this look, a post from Samantha Bacon of MakingYourHomeBeautiful.com.

I feature botanical pieces, gold finishes, round shapes, and a base of black and white with just a pop of green for fun.

And then the little details
I added a lot of little details to this room to help make our guests comfortable. There are two throw blankets, fluffy white towels, note cards, WiFi code display, slippers, and a “Just in Case” bag filled with toiletries. All these little touches make the guest feel like they’re welcome in our home!
I made the throw pillows and bags. You can see what I have available for purchase by looking through my online shop or email me directly.

How our guest bedroom is doing …
I decorated the guest bedroom right before summer. Living on a lake in upstate New York, the summer is the best time to visit. That means, we’ve had a steady stream of visitors. My daughters, sister, and friends have all come to stay for a night or a week. Each visit is special and I love bringing them upstairs to show them where they’ll be sleeping.
